Diane Janzen is a longstanding resident of Chilliwack. She grew up on a family farm and now lives in Yarrow, on family land that goes back three generations where she operates Heritage Tree Farm with her husband. Diane has been married to Doug for 37 years and she has two grown daughters.
Public service is a key focus of Diane’s. She served as a City Councillor and a School Trustee and Chair of the Board for close to 10 years. In these capacities she oversaw balanced budgets in each of these years, expanded schools of choice, improved academic results, and built a number of schools for our expanding population. At the City, Diane was on Council to open the Evans Fly Over and Chilliwack Cultural Centre projects. She also served as the Chair of the Mayor’s Committee on Health, working with a community group that fundraised for the $5 Million expansion of the Emergency Ward at the Chilliwack Hospital and opened the Chilliwack Health Contact Centre, dedicated to providing addiction treatment services and housing. Diane also served as a community representative on the Division of Family Practice, an organization of doctors and health care professionals dedicated to advancing primary health care in Chilliwack. During her time at the City, property taxes were kept to some of the lowest in the province.
Diane Janzen has an extensive management work history. She is currently the Executive Director of Chilliwack Community Services, overseeing more than 100 employees, 500 volunteers and delivering 36 programs to close to 7,000 people every year. This includes helping children, youth, families, seniors and those looking for work. During COVID Diane collaborated with the Salvation Army, Bowls of Hope and other organizations to provide food to 400 families a week. Prior to that Diane was the Director of Education for Seabird Island Band providing kindergarten to Grade 12, post-secondary, adult education and trades training to 14 First Nations communities and delivering strong results and significantly increasing graduation rates and employment. Diane was owner of Janzen and Associates for 16 years, providing management, board development, financial and program supports to companies, governments and non-profit organizations.
Diane has been dedicated to Chilliwack through significant volunteering. She is a dedicated Rotarian and has served on the boards of Ann Davis Transition Society, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce, Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Children’s Program, Chilliwack Stingrays Swim Club and she is an active board member of the Chilliwack Youth Health Centre board.
Diane has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology from the University of Winnipeg and a Master’s of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management from Royal Roads University, where she was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for the Highest Academic Achievement in the program.
